Private Forestry Program
The Private Forestry Programme (PFP) aims at increasing rural income in the Southern Highlands of Tanzania through developing sustainable and profitable forestry and value addition in the entire production value chain from quality seeds to quality products in the markets. The programme is funded by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism of Tanzania. PFP is implemented by a consortium formed by Indufor Oy and Niras Finland.
The Programme operates in selected districts in Iringa, Njombe, Morogoro and Ruvuma regions. Key implementing entities and partners of the Programme include the Ministry of Natural Resource and Tourism, the Tanzania Forest Services, District Councils of the area, training and research organizations, and Tree Growers' Associations (TGA).

Duration : : Iringa/Mafinga with extensive travel to rural areas
To be recruited and deployed as soon as possible, and on successful completion of a six-month probation period, to be retained full-time up to 31 December 2017. There is also a strong probability that this contract can be extended to 30th September 2018 based on satisfactory performance.
Background:
Private Forestry Programme (PFP) aims at supporting the members of TGAs in developing sustainable and profitable forestry and value addition in the entire value chair). In addition to tree growing, PFP supports sustainable participatory land use planning. The approach of the Programme is human rights based and inclusive of vulnerable groups in the communities. The first phase of the Programme (2014- 2017/18) operates in three thematic areas: enabling environment, plantation forestry development and wood product development and product innovation. PFP is implemented in Njombe, Makete and Ludewa districts in Njombe region, Mufindi and Kilolo districts in Iringa region, Madaba dis trict in Songea region and Kilombero district in Morogoro region.
One form of support from PFP to its beneficiaries is by helping them to form microfinancing self-help groups. So far, the Programme has piloted this form of support by issisting its beneficiaries to start VICOBA groups within the Mufindi district. Due to successful piloting, this activity is widening to include more areas within the Southern Highlands, the
Programme is expanding its support to hundreds of groups and is changing its approach from VICOBA to VSLA. Now the Programme is in the process of contracting one or more service providers to take over the established groups and to form new ones. Since this activity will be an extensive one and will require significant resources in overseeing, monitoring and evaluation, the Programme is looking for an expert in micro financing issues to take on the responsibilities of the VSLA
