Description
TST believes in building and supporting happy families, in all of their
various shapes and forms. We create sustainable, participatory and
evolving care plans for orphaned and vulnerable children and families in
the Meru district of Tanzania. Working with the community, we bring
together small acts from around the world to create big change.
We are currently looking for a bright and energetic Communications and Human Resources coordinator who will be able to effectively communicate field efforts to our global community of sponsors and volunteers. This is an excellent opportunity for anyone looking to learn, to grow and to help support local initiatives abroad!
Key Responsibilities:
Sponsorship Program (30%)
Oversee and manage all aspects of our sponsorship program
Coordinate all communications with sponsors
Convert potential sponsors, both in-person and through media communications
Write and manage bi-annual sponsor updates
Manage and work with Executive Director to create all sponsor related materials
Work with students to write letters and other updates for their sponsors
Communication and OTG Support (30%)
Cultivate local partnerships and source new activities throughout the year that can fit in with TST immersion tours
Provide personalized tours to major donors
Communicate with all prospective 1-3 day immersion tour clients and liaise with appropriate staff to organize tours and elicit feedback
Provide guidance and professional development opportunities to all staff, including organizing and helping to run team days
Assist the OTG management team to provide the Executive Director and the TST boards with regular written and verbal updates regarding progress and outcome of community initiatives
Take a lead and direct where appropriate orientation of all new staff
Volunteer Coordination (30%)
Set up logistics for all individual volunteers, visitors and school groups who come to TST, including making budgets and creating itineraries
Manage all incoming volunteer applications and correspondence
Assist Education Director and Childwelfare Director with all volunteer, visitor and group trips, as necessary
Maintain operational upkeep of TST Compound
Source and enable the provision volunteers for the adult education programme, recruiting assistance when necessary and appropriate from abroad
Note: Direct management of volunteers' day to day work activities will be provided by relevant program staff, volunteer coordinator is only responsible for orientation, facilitation, and accommodation.
Facilitation of Other Educational Programs (10%)
Support additional Community extracurricular programs as necessary, including volunteer support with the Community library, the adult education programme, and staff development activities
Collaborate with other like-minded organizations and research current market
Desired Qualifications:
Native English speaker, or equivalent level of written and spoken fluency
Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field
3 years of work experience.
2 years of communications/marketing, HR, or management experience, especially for nonprofits.
Experience using Microsoft Office products like Word, Excel, SharePoint Designer, and PowerPoint
Experience working with children
Experience working in a developing country, preferably in East Africa
Proficiency in Swahili is preferred but willingness to learn is essential!
Experience training and coaching, a plus

Excellent written, interpersonal, and verbal communication skills
Ability to work independently, take direction from others, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
