Nipe Fagio is a Tanzania-based public advocacy organisation, focused on
increasing awareness, as well as facilitating and promoting sustainable
development initiatives. Founded in 2013, the organisation's vision is a
cleaner, healthier, and safer Dar es Salaam, and eventually the same
vision for Tanzania and the rest of the world.
Nipe Fagio means 'pass the broom' in Swahili; this ethos is what propels our work - the idea that collective action is what will bring about the change that we want to see. Our objective is to empower individuals, civil society, the private sector, and government all to take action toward this shared vision and to play a role in this powerful initiative for efficient, clean, and healthy environments.
Overall Responsibility The Executive Director of Nipe Fagio supports the Board in the governance and strategic leadership of the organisation. She/he is responsible for leading the team in delivery of strategy, technical and financial operations, and organisational growth. The Executive Director shall develop and nurture relationships with policy influencers, strategic partners, and other stakeholders to advance Nipe Fagio’s interests. The Nipe Fagio Executive Director manages the organisation from the head office in Dar es Salaam, and reports directly to the Board.
Key Responsibility Areas
Strategy Delivery
Oversees the implementation of the organisation's strategic plan.
Establishes partnerships with relevant regional and international environmental organisations.
Develops primary and secondary school environmental education programmes in line with national curricula.
Delivers best waste practices, ‘livable cities’ education, and behavior change work programmes in collaboration with key stakeholders including citizens of urban communities, local and central government, research institutes and private sector partners.
Manages donor contracts including technical and financial reporting.Manages staff including designing individual work plans and conducting performance reviews.
Operational Management
Takes responsibility for developing and leading the Nipe Fagio team to ensure high-quality delivery of targets.
Controls financial operations of the organisation including production of regular financial reports.
Prepares annual budget for presentation to Nipe Fagio Board of Members.
Guides and approves detailed activity plans for the Nipe Fagio programmes and teams.
Keeps all documents and records of the organisation and oversees office administration systems.
Fosters a culture of curiosity and continuous learning amongst the Nipe Fagio team, and with the organisation's partners.
Ensures that policies, systems, structure and practices are in place for the efficient and effective delivery of Nipe Fagio’s strategy.
Engages regularly with Nipe Fagio staff on the progress of strategy implementation and learning so that all are engaged and informed.
Communicates effectively and on a timely basis with the Board on activities, finance and programmatic performance of Nipe Fagio.
External Engagement
Acts as an influential and powerful voice for Nipe Fagio throughout the country, and globally.
Builds networks and fosters partnerships with like-minded entities to create a powerful movement.
Prepares fundraising proposals and grant applications.
Communicates Nipe Fagio’s activities, progress and research findings to partners, donors, stakeholders and the public through a range of media.
Manages Nipe Fagio’s website and social media accounts.
Believes in and lives by Nipe Fagio's principles and serves as a good ambassador of the organisation's work.
Are you the person we are looking for?
Nipe Fagio offers a competitive package, a two-year full-time work contract, a work permit (if required), and an exciting opportunity to bring about change.
The Nipe Fagio Executive Director is expected to be an experienced leader with at least eight years of program development, policy engagement and management experience at senior level, with a solid track record of effectively leading a results-based organisation.
The Executive Director shall also have the following qualifications and skills:
• An appropriate educational qualification in a field that aligns with Nipe Fagio's objectives and interests;
A passionate advocate for the environment, with excellent relationship-building skills, as well as public speaking and media skills;
A keen understanding of the social scene of Tanzania and East Africa, with an understanding of key influencers, political figures, and potential partners;
A strong proficiency to operate both orally and in writing in English. Ability to communicate in Swahili would be a bonus, or willingness to learn the language (fast);
Demonstrated evidence of having managed large multi-project budgets;
• An astute knowledge and experience of waste management, global environmental issues, communication, community mobilization, behavior change;
Excellent computer skills (Word, Excel, Power Point, Google Drive) and a clean driving license;
Willingness to live and work in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
