Introduction:
The National Institute for Medical Research (NIMR), Mwanza Centre in collaboration with the Imperial College, London, The Natural History Museum, London, and the Addis Ababa University, Ethiopia, have received funding from the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC), UK, to implement a three year research project entitled “WISER: Water Infrastructure for Schistosomiasis Endemic Regions“. The project’s major objective is to determine the effectiveness of water treatment processess in removing or inactivating schistosome cercariae in water samples collected from schistosomiasis endemic regions in Ethiopia and Tanzania. The project is currently looking for suitably qualified, highly motivated young Tanzanians to fill the following vacant posts:

1.1 Duties and responsibilities
• To assist senior investigators to plan and execute field and laboratory activities including preparation of data collection tools, collection and analysis of samples and related data using various methods
• To provide overall supervision of project activities both in the field and in the laboratory and provide logistic support during project implementation
• To assist senior investigators to perform basic quality control of samples and data collected
• To assist the team leader in keeping inventory of project equipment, field and laboratory consumables
• To write project progress reports from time to time as requested by senior investigators
• Any other related duties as assigned by senior investigators

1.2 Required qualifications and experience
• PhD degree in biology/biomedical sciences, environmental engineering, environmental sciences or related field
• A master’s degree in the same field of study plus substantial research experience will also be considered.

Duration of employment contract and remuneration
• Remuneration will be according to NIMR scheme of service.
